Wisdom Of Owls
Owls are often associated with wisdom for several reasons, many of which stem from cultural symbolism, mythology, and their natural traits.
In ancient Greece, the owl was a symbol of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare. The bird became her emblem, and its association with intelligence and knowledge was cemented through this mythological link. Owls are often depicted alongside Athena in ancient art, which helped establish the bird’s reputation as wise.
Also, Owls are primarily nocturnal and have highly developed senses, particularly their keen eyesight and hearing, allowing them to navigate the darkness with precision. This ability to see what others cannot (literally and symbolically) often parallels the idea of wisdom and insight.
Because of their stoic appearance and their calm and almost contemplative appearance due to their large, round eyes and upright posture, owls can give the impression of thoughtfulness and sagacity.
Perhaps the last contributing factor may be found in literature and folklore of cultures around the world, where owls are regarded as symbols of wisdom, knowledge, and foresight. Their silent, observant nature contributes to their aura of being insightful creatures.
So over time, these several factors blended to make owls an enduring symbol of Wisdom.
