After nearly 90 years in the Wendt & Kühn archives, a beloved gentle giant has returned. Originally designed by Olly Sommer—later Olly Wendt—in 1926, the Large Elephant has been faithfully re-created for its 100th anniversary and reintroduced to the collection in 2026.
Historical catalog illustrations and an original pattern for a smaller elephant guided the artisans as they brought this remarkable figure back to life. Every detail required thoughtful craftsmanship, from the graceful curve of the trunk and gently bending tusks to the carefully selected cord used for the tail.
Standing 3.5 inches high, the elephant is hand-painted in warm, cheerful colors and adorned with a coral-red ceremonial covering accented by delicate yellow dots and soft gray-blue trim. Its substantial form and coordinating blue base give it an impressive presence among the Blossom Kinder and their friends.
